How to Lose Weight without Cardio

I’ve done it in the past, so there’s no reason why you can’t do the same. Weight loss is based off of two things:

  • Increased metabolic rate
  • Decreased caloric intake

Most people focus on reducing their caloric intake and burning off more calories through cardio. The worst thing that’s happened in the fitness world is the publication of these calorie charts that tell people how much they’re burning for each minute of cardio they perform.

I remember back in college I overhead this conversation between two friends. Lets call them Tom and Joe. Tom is a chubby guy who’s just started losing a little weight through exercise and diet. Joe is a skinny guy. I don’t know much about Joe, but I’m assuming he has a faster metabolic rate than Tom.

Joe goes to eat a pastry and Tom says, “You know it’s going to take you a long time to burn that off.” Joe looks up at Tom, confused. “Yeah, that pastry is like 300 calories. I can burn that off by jogging 30 minutes on a treadmill, but you’ll probably have to jog like 3 hours because you’re skinnier than me.”

WRONG!

Joe will probably finish off the pastry, get up and walk to the door and feel hungry again. Why? Because he has a fast metabolic rate and can eat more calories overall than Tom because of his fast metabolic rate.

Fat loss with High Intensity Resistance Training

When you perform high intensity resistance training you cause damage to the connective tissue and muscle fibers. You also drain energy reserves. All this activity gives the body a reason to change. It starts the recovery process, which includes strengthening your muscles and replenishing energy stores.

In this process, your body improves. It gets stronger, leaner, faster, and more athletic.

I mentioned earlier that your body must burn more calories than it consumes in order to lose weight. But the biggest issue here is that your body does not discriminate between muscle and fat when performing long duration cardiovascular activities.

But most athletic women do not weigh the same as athletic men. Again, it has to do with hormones than anything else. Here is my simple approach to nutrition: eat more if you need to. Eat less if you need to. Eat the same if you need to.

Well, how do you figure out how much you need to eat? Simple answer:

  • If your goal is fat loss, and you are not losing weight at your current caloric intake, then drop the calories per day just slightly and see what happens.
  • If your caloric intake is less than 1000 per day, and you still are not losing weight, then you  are not eating enough. Eat more for about a week and see what happens.

A lot of dieting is experimentation. I refuse to follow specific formulas. These formulas often don’t take into account individual metabolic rates and level of activity. They’re often based on assumptions, and you know what happens when you assume.

Here’s my primary message to women: don’t be afraid to eat more if you need to eat more.

Jan: Dr. Keith, let’s talk a little bit about homeopathic remedies. We’re going to talk specifically about something you’re having an experience with, and so am I and a lot of people in and around the True Healthy Products family, if you will, are working with a fat release system, we call it, a new way to lose fat.  The process is using a homeopathic version of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG). The idea is to help people with obesity or wanting to just lose a few pounds, and whether you have 50 or ten pounds to lose, this is something that is actually working for people and you can testify to this, as we had you get on this program, and it’s actually producing a result. I don’t think you’re amazed by it because it kind of makes sense, right.

Dr. Keith: Absolutely.

Jan: There’s a science behind it.  So let’s just talk about homeopathy for a minute because I know that you’ve used that over the years in different things. So let’s talk about homeopathy in itself, and then let’s proceed to this method of homeopathic Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) administered for the fat release system.

Dr. Keith: You know, I’m on a couple of advisory boards.  I don’t think that makes me an expert, but I am entitled to a strong opinion on homeopathy.  I use it a lot and I see it in a diversity of forms. And it’s a very good way – there are various things you can do with homeopathy, you know.  You can take a special remedy and make it a homeopathic remedy but you can also take regular substances and turn those into a homeopathic version, if you like.  Allow me to touch upon the three bullet point definitions of homeopathy in case anyone doesn’t know.  First of all, it’s based upon what we call life treating life.  So you don’t look for a remedy that masks the problem or smothers it.  You look for something that mimics it or is like it so it’s sympathetic to it.  That’s what homo means, the same as, so homeopathy means the same feeling as, the same disease as, so that’s the first point.

Jan: Okay.

Dr. Keith: But the most important point is that you then do what’s call potentizing, so you dilute it successively, usually in series of ten or a series of a hundred.  So series of ten, you take one drop and add it to nine drops and you’ve got a ten times dilution. You take one drop of that, add another nine drops and so on down the sequence.  So, for example, if you were a D-12, that means on that number 10 series, but the 12th dilution, you see how that works.

Jan: Right.

Dr. Keith: We call that potentizing because strangely enough, it makes things stronger and it makes things more potent.  And this is what drives conventional thinkers and scientists and doctors crazy.  I mean, they just froth at the mouth.  They lose it.  Hey, they can’t work.  We know on the ten series, after the 12th dilution, you’ve gone past what’s called the Avogadro number or the Germans call it the Losknik number, but anyway, what it means effectively, you’ve diluted it so much, there’s not even one single molecule of the original substance left.

Jan: Right.

Dr. Keith: And so they say, therefore, it’s just stupid, it cannot work and you guys are just crazy or frauds.  But, of course, they’ve got the wrong model.  If it were just biochemical and biochemical stuff, you know, I could agree.  We know if you dilute something, it gets weaker and weaker.  But what happens if you keep diluting it.  What happens, in fact, is that it goes weaker then becomes stronger again, then weaker and then stronger again.  And almost all substances do that, you know. Have you heard of this thing called a memory of water?  That was a very controversial science study done in the 80′s but it showed basically the same thing.  A scientist in Paris, France, he studied this phenomenon and it went on sort of forever.  You know, he diluted it 120 times and it was still coming and going, you know, over a few dilutions.  So we don’t know what’s happening but we do know it’s not stuff.  You know, it’s not a biochemical process.  We’re not talking about a drug substance, it’s gone.

Jan: It’s gone.

Dr. Keith: But what we’re left with is the kind of signature, or the imprint, because let me tell you the third bullet of homeopathy is what we call succession, and that means you take the little, you know, the new mixture, you’ve diluted it ten times, it’s in a little bottle and you do this, several times, that kind of hammers the message, if you like, into the structure of the water, for this dilution, then you take some of that dilution, add it to plain water, do this again.  So this process we call succession is very important.  If you don’t do it, it doesn’t work.

Jan: Okay.

Dr. Keith: You just end up with diluted stuff.  But if you do this, you somehow transmit the signal to the next dilution and the next dilution so even if you’ve diluted it millions and billions and squillions of time, you’ve still got the signal of the original substance.

Jan: Right.

Dr. Keith: And what is remarkable and, you know, we’re not arguing with the fact that it’s gone, but we know from trial and experience that when you do this process, it makes it more powerful and it’s a bit of a mystery in nature, except that, you know, generally in biology, a little goes a long way, you know, less is more and all that.

Jan: Right.

Dr. Keith: Understand that’s the kind of holistic philosophy.  Conventional doctors think the opposite.  One pill didn’t work, so let’s give him two.  If that doesn’t work, give him four.

Jan: Yeah, right.

Dr. Keith: What a homeopath does is give a remedy and if the person is showing signs of making a recovery, they stop the treatment.  They don’t say, oh, this is working, take some more.  So a completely different philosophy.  And what we’re doing is, in fact, passing on some kind of energy or information signal.  But because the original substance is not there anymore, you don’t have all these problems of side effects and so it’s very safe.

Jan: Right.

Dr. Keith: You know, there are no – people don’t die of homeopathy in the way that they, you know, die of vioxyn, all these deadly substances that conventional doctors use, so it’s very safe, but very effective and it’s actually rather wonderful.

Jan: Okay.

Dr. Keith: So you can take anything, as I said.  You could take, for example, if somebody’s got pneumonia, you take pneumonia, dilute it, success it, dilute it and by the time you get to pneumonia 200, that’s probably a highly effective therapy.  You give it to the person, the swallow it, and hey, that tuberculosis starts to resolve.

The ideal body weight range is a result of the BMI calculation between 19 and 24. In your case, you are right in the middle of the ideal range with a BMI of 21.79.

The healthy weight range and BMI give you a good indication of ideal weight, but they do not indicate anything further about our exact health. There is another parameter that we can all use to accurately indicate the state of our health: body composition. Body composition refers to a method of measuring two important aspects that contribute to our total weight. The first part is lean body mass and the second part is body fat.

With this parameter, the human body is divided into three categories of fat. The athletic or lean zone is when one has a body-fat level of less than 14 percent (men) or less than 20 percent (women). The normal zone is when one’s body-fat level falls between 15 percent and 25 percent (men) or between 20 percent and 30 percent (women). The fat or obese zone is when one has a body fat level of more than 25 percent (men) or more than 30 percent (women).

People who are in the fat or obese zone have a higher tendency to have a high blood sugar level and cholesterol level. They are also at higher risk of suffering degenerative diseases (coronary heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer) some time in their future.

The healthy weight range and BMI do not indicate your body-fat level. Two people can have the same body height and weight, but one can be very athletic with less fat and more lean body mass and the other can be very unfit with more fat and less lean body mass.

My partner, Halim Tsiang, and I at RAI Institute have conducted a series of body-fat surveys since 2006 with a population sample of up to 300 people. We found that more than 50 percent of people whose weights puts them in the healthy range with a normal BMI are actually fat or obese according to the body composition parameters.

To properly determine whether you belong to this group or not, you can have your level of body fat checked at any good fitness center. Most will be more than happy to perform a body composition test for you for free. Another option is to buy a body-fat scale (available at fine sporting goods or home gym stores) for your own personal use and monitoring.

Embrace exercise weekly and keep to three square meals every day. The next step is to increase the consistency and quality of your healthy habits, and to drop some of the less-than-healthy habits. Bicycle Exercise: Lie flat on your back on the ground. Lift one leg 10 inches above the ground. Place your hands at the back of your head. Then try to twist the elbow in the direction of the bent knee and hold the position till you finish counting 10. Then change the position and lift the other leg and move the other elbow in its direction. When you change the position of the leg and the arm continuously, it will look as if you are riding a bicycle. Throughout the exercise make sure your body remains straight and do not form an arch.
